Riverside School provides 127 places for students aged 11-16, (school years 7-11), from across Haringey, (and occasionally from other boroughs), with a wide range of general, complex, severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties, including those who have emotional, language and communication needs.  Nearly two-thirds of the school’s population have a diagnosis of autism.

The school is organised into three teams corresponding to different levels of need: Team 3, mainly pre-formal  curriculum P-steps 1-4, (6 classes); Team 2, semi-formal curriculum P-steps 4-8, (6 classes); Team 1, formal curriculum P-steps 8-15, (5/docs/Classteacher_Application_Form.docx classes). (See school website for full organisational and curriculum arrangements).

  • There are discrete parallel class groupings within each team for students with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), and for those with other general learning difficulties (GLD). Class groupings are governed by commonalities of need, levels of independence and learning capacity, and both strands of need may include MLD, SLD and PMLD students. All students transition from KS3 classess into a KS4 class where the curriculum includes ASDAN and work experience.
